Assisted
by a physical therapist or physical
therapist assistant, aquatic physical
therapy utilizes hydrodynamic
principles to guide techniques that
stretch, strengthen, balance train,
and re-educate muscles. It can also
be used to unload the spine and other
joints of the body.
Although aquatic physical therapy may
benefit most patients, post-operative
patients find it an essential
component to their rehabilitation
program. With a decreased gravity
environment, patients are able to
exercise with achieve their goals.
When the therapist feels that the
patient is ready, they will be
transitioned to a land-based program.
On land, the patient will be
challenged to work against gravity,
in order to increase their functional
mobility.
The depth of the pool ranges from
three and a half to six and a half
feet, and measures forty feet in
length and twenty feet in width. The
temperature of our pool is kept
within a comfortable range to satisfy
most therapeutic needs.
